Yasuhiro Hanashi is a Japanese politician and former police bureaucrat currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, he joined the National Police Agency in 1982 before entering politics. He has held several high-level positions, including Minister of Justice, State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and State Minister of Cabinet Office. Hanashi is known for his conservative policy stances, including support for constitutional reform and the maintenance of the current energy policy. His career has been marked by significant controversy, most notably his resignation as Minister of Justice in 2022 following disparaging remarks regarding his role in authorizing capital punishment.
