Yasushi Furukawa
Profile
Yasushi Furukawa is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, he began his career in the Ministry of Home Affairs before serving three terms as the Governor of Saga Prefecture from 2003 to 2014. Since entering national politics, he has held several government positions, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. He has also served as the Chairman of the Committee on Internal Affairs and Communications in the House of Representatives. Politically, he is known for his support of constitutional reform, including the explicit mention of the Self-Defense Forces in Article 9, and has maintained a pragmatic stance on regional infrastructure and energy policy.
