Yasushi Katsume

Yasushi Katsume is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Home Affairs (now the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) in 1997, where he held various positions including serving at the Embassy of Japan in France and as a secretary to the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2021 representing the Kyoto 1st district and has since been re-elected. Katsume has served as the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Environment and Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Cabinet Office. Politically, he supports constitutional amendment, including the explicit mention of the Self-Defense Forces in Article 9, while maintaining a conservative stance on social issues such as same-sex marriage and the selective separate surname system for married couples.
