Yukio Sangu is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kitamoto in Saitama Prefecture. Born in 1951 in Niigata Prefecture, he began his career as a school teacher before transitioning into local politics. He served four terms as a member of the Kitamoto City Council starting in 1995. After several unsuccessful bids for the mayoral office, he was elected Mayor of Kitamoto in 2019. During his tenure, he has focused on administrative reforms, including salary reductions for city officials during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the introduction of a partnership oath system for sexual minority couples in 2020.
