Born in Kumamoto Prefecture, he worked as a large-scale farmer specializing in rice and livestock before entering politics. He previously served as the chairman of the National Association of Agricultural Cooperative Youth Organizations and as the representative director of the Kamimashiki Agricultural Cooperative. Since his first election to the House of Councillors in 2016, he has focused on agricultural policy, advocating for sustainable growth in rural areas and opposing strict nationwide smoking bans in restaurants. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the House of Councillors.
