Adam Smith is an American politician and attorney who has served as the U.S. Representative for Washington's 9th congressional district since 1997. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the Washington State Senate, where he was elected at age 25 as the youngest state senator in the country. Throughout his congressional career, Smith has focused on national security and foreign affairs, notably serving as the Chair and later Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee.
