Adriano Espaillat is a Dominican-American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 13th congressional district since 2017. He holds the distinction of being the first Dominican American and the first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in the U.S. Congress. Prior to his federal service, Espaillat was a member of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, where he focused on tenant protections, affordable housing, and immigrant rights. A member of the Democratic Party, he currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee and has held leadership roles within the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
