Akira Tanaka is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Takayama in Gifu Prefecture. Born in Takayama in 1961, he graduated from Tokai University before working at a trading company and later joining the Takayama municipal government in 1987. During his tenure as a civil servant, he held positions including Director of the Planning Department and Director of the Overseas Strategy Department. After retiring from the city government in 2021, he founded a travel company and served as an executive director for the Hida-Takayama Tourist Convention Association. He was elected mayor in August 2022 with the support of the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito.
