Aleksandr Kurenkov is a Russian politician and military officer who has served as the Minister of Emergency Situations since May 2022. Born in 1972, he began his career as a physical education teacher before joining the Federal Security Service and later the Federal Protective Service, where he served on the security detail for Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov. Prior to his ministerial appointment, he held senior roles in the National Guard Forces Command. Kurenkov holds the rank of lieutenant general and is a member of the Security Council of Russia.
