Alexis Kalokairinos

Alexis Kalokairinos is a Greek academic and politician currently serving as the Mayor of Heraklion, a position he assumed in 2024. Born in 1964 in Heraklion, he pursued studies in Athens and Paris before establishing a distinguished career as a professor of linguistics at the University of Crete, where he also served as the head of the Department of Philology. Beyond his academic work, he has been an active figure in humanitarian efforts, notably serving on the governing board of the A. & M. Kalokerinos Humanitarian Foundation. As mayor, he has focused his administration on urban renewal, infrastructure development, and fiscal transparency, aiming to address the city's financial challenges through strategic planning and improved resource management.
