Alistair Carmichael

Alistair Carmichael is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Orkney and Shetland since 2001. A prominent member of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, he held the position of Secretary of State for Scotland from 2013 to 2015 during the Cameron-Clegg coalition government. Throughout his parliamentary career, he has served in various leadership roles, including Liberal Democrat Chief Whip and Deputy Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats. In September 2024, he was elected as the Chair of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee. Before entering politics, Carmichael worked as a hotel manager and a solicitor.
