Asoka Ranwala

Asoka Ranwala is a Sri Lankan politician and trade unionist currently serving as a Member of Parliament representing the National People's Power. He previously served as the 22nd Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka in late 2024, becoming the shortest-serving speaker in the nation's history after resigning amidst controversy regarding his academic credentials. A long-time activist with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Ranwala previously held positions in the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha and the Western Provincial Council. His career has been marked by significant involvement in trade union activities at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and recent legal challenges related to a vehicular accident.
