Bärbel Bas is a German politician who has served as the Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs since May 2025 and as co-leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) since June 2025. A member of the Bundestag since 2009, she previously served as the 14th President of the Bundestag from 2021 to 2025. Associated with the left wing of the SPD, Bas began her career as an office assistant and social security specialist before entering local politics in Duisburg. Throughout her tenure, she has been a vocal advocate for employee rights and social security reform.
