As the country's first non-binary MP, Doyle focused on Māori affairs, education, health, and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. Before entering Parliament, they worked as a teacher, a kaupapa Māori researcher at the University of Waikato, and a community organizer. Doyle resigned from their seat in 2025, citing a hostile environment and a series of safety threats directed at them and their family.
