First elected in 2020, he represents the 61st district following redistricting in 2022. Outside of his legislative career, Sassmann manages his family's funeral businesses and works as a landlord. In 2025, he successfully sponsored legislation to ban the sale of several invasive plant species in Missouri nurseries, including the Callery pear and Japanese honeysuckle.
