Carlos Cuerpo

Carlos Cuerpo is a Spanish economist and politician who has been serving as the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise in the government of Pedro Sánchez. A career civil servant and member of the High Corps of Spanish State Economists and Trade Experts, he succeeded Nadia Calviño in late 2023 before being nominated as first deputy prime minister in March 2026. In addition to his national cabinet roles, he holds ex-officio board positions in numerous major international and European financial institutions.
