Cheng Ying-yao is a Taiwanese academic administrator and politician currently serving as the Minister of Education since 2024. Raised in Penghu, he began his career as an elementary school teacher before transitioning into higher education, where he served as a professor and president of National Sun Yat-sen University. During his academic tenure, he was noted for initiatives such as the establishment of the College of Semiconductor and Advanced Technology Research. Previously, he led the Kaohsiung City Government's Bureau of Education and the New Frontier Foundation. In 2026, he was sanctioned by the People's Republic of China, which labeled him a separatist for his role in educational policy.
