Chrystia Freeland

Chrystia Freeland is a Canadian politician and former journalist who served in various high-level cabinet positions, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. A member of the Liberal Party, she was first elected to the House of Commons in 2013 and represented the riding of University—Rosedale until 2026. Throughout her political career, she played a pivotal role in international trade negotiations, including the CUSMA agreement, and managed Canada's economic response during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before entering politics, she held prominent editorial roles at the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Reuters, and authored acclaimed books on global economics and Russian politics. She resigned from Parliament in January 2026 and is set to become the warden of Rhodes House.
