A farmer by trade, he previously served in the Washington House of Representatives and as the director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Known as a moderate Republican, he is a member of the Republican Governance Group and notably voted to impeach Donald Trump in 2021 following the January 6 Capitol attack. He has focused on agricultural policy, immigration reform, and regional economic development throughout his tenure.
