A member of Fianna Fáil, he has represented the constituency of Dublin Fingal East in Dáil Éireann since 2025, having previously served as a Teachta Dála for Dublin Fingal and Dublin North. Before his current ministerial roles, he served as the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage from 2020 to 2025 and held a seat in the Seanad Éireann from 2011 to 2016.
