Born in Avoyelles Parish and raised in Hessmer, Louisiana, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management from Louisiana State University. Before entering politics, Deshotel was a successful entrepreneur who co-founded Detel Wireless and Detel Computer Solutions. He was first elected to the state legislature in 2019 and assumed office in January 2020.
