David Douglas Des van Rooyen is a South African politician and Member of the National Assembly representing the uMkhonto we Sizwe party. A former anti-apartheid activist and military operative with Umkhonto we Sizwe, he previously served as Mayor of Merafong City, as well as holding brief high-profile national cabinet appointments as Minister of Finance and Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs under President Jacob Zuma. Holding multiple advanced degrees including an MSc in Finance from the University of London, he returned to parliament following the 2024 general election.
