Elgie R. Sims Jr. is an American politician serving as a member of the Illinois Senate for the 17th district. A former small business owner and attorney, Sims previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2012 to 2018. Throughout his legislative career, he has focused on criminal justice reform, including the passage of the SAFE-T Act, as well as fiscal discipline, economic development, and public safety initiatives. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
