A member of the Labor Party, she previously worked as a staffer for Premier Jay Weatherill. Following Labor's victory in the 2022 state election, she was appointed to the Cabinet, where she has held portfolios including Assistant Minister to the Premier, Autism, Emergency Services, Correctional Services, and Recreation, Sport and Racing. Bourke grew up on a farm near Maitland on the Yorke Peninsula and resides in Adelaide.
