Emmanuel Tjibaou is a French politician and ethnolinguist who serves as a Member of the National Assembly for New Caledonia's 2nd constituency. Elected in 2024, he is the first pro-independence Kanak deputy since 1986. The son of historical nationalist leader Jean-Marie Tjibaou, he previously directed the Tjibaou Cultural Center and the Agency for the Development of Kanak Culture. His career has focused on the preservation of Kanak intangible heritage, cultural research, and documentary filmmaking, reflecting his commitment to Kanak identity and dialogue within the French Republic.
