Erik van Merrienboer

Erik van Merrienboer is a Dutch politician and administrator who served as the Mayor of Terneuzen from 2021 to 2025. A member of the Labour Party (PvdA), he previously held significant roles in local and provincial government, including serving as a municipal executive in Eindhoven and as a provincial deputy in North Brabant. His tenure as mayor ended in December 2025 following his resignation in protest over the municipal council's rejection of an asylum seekers' center. Van Merrienboer holds a degree in political science from Radboud University Nijmegen and has extensive experience in economic and regional policy.
