Gary Peters is an American politician and lawyer serving as the senior United States Senator from Michigan, a position he has held since 2015. Before his election to the Senate, he served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 14th and 9th congressional districts, as well as in the Michigan Senate and as the Michigan Lottery commissioner. A former naval officer and investment advisor, Peters has focused his legislative career on economic policy, homeland security, and government oversight. He has announced that he will not seek reelection in 2026.
