Representing the Rehli constituency since 1985, he holds the record for winning nine consecutive elections from the same seat. Throughout his extensive career, he has served as a cabinet minister in the Government of Madhya Pradesh for multiple terms and held the position of Leader of the Opposition in the 15th Legislative Assembly. In 2023, he was appointed as the Pro tem Speaker of the 16th Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
