Hideto Onishi is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat who has served as the Mayor of Takamatsu since 2007. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, he began his career in the Ministry of Home Affairs, holding various administrative positions in local governments before entering municipal politics. Throughout his five terms in office, he has focused on urban revitalization, disaster prevention, and the promotion of a 'creative city' model. Onishi has also implemented progressive policies such as a partnership oath system for same-sex couples and has been active in national municipal associations, including serving as a vice-chairman of the Japan Association of City Mayors.
