Hikaru Sato is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Chigasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture. Born in Chigasaki, he studied in the United States before returning to Japan to work as a secretary for politicians Yohei Kono and Taro Kono. He began his political career as a member of the Kanagawa Prefectural Assembly, where he served five terms and held the position of assembly chair. Elected mayor in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, his administration has focused on initiatives such as the implementation of a partnership oath system for same-sex couples and fiscal management measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
