Hiroo Ishii is a Japanese politician and former professional baseball player currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Akita Prefecture, he enjoyed a notable career in Nippon Professional Baseball, playing for the Kintetsu Buffaloes, Yomiuri Giants, Chiba Lotte Marines, and Yokohama BayStars, where he earned titles such as the 1994 Pacific League RBI leader. Following his retirement from sports, he transitioned into business and politics, winning his first seat in the House of Councillors in 2010 representing the Akita constituency. Throughout his legislative career, he has held various leadership roles, including State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and chair of several standing committees. Ishii is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party and has consistently supported policies regarding constitutional reform, the strengthening of Japan's defense capabilities, and regional revitalization.
