Hubert Bruls is a Dutch politician who has served as the Mayor of Nijmegen since 2012. A member of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), he previously served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2002 to 2005 and as the Mayor of Venlo from 2005 to 2012. During his tenure in Nijmegen, he gained national prominence as the chairman of the Dutch Security Council (Veiligheidsberaad) from 2016 to 2023, where he acted as a key liaison between the government and safety regions during the COVID-19 pandemic. He holds a degree in political science from Radboud University Nijmegen and was appointed an officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2023.
