Hussein Bourgi is a French politician of Lebanese descent who has served as a Senator for the Hérault department since 2020. Born in Dakar, Senegal, he moved to Montpellier in 1992 to study law. Before his election to the Senate, he served as a regional councilor for Occitanie starting in 2016 and held various leadership roles in civil society, including the presidency of the Memorial for Homosexual Deportation. A member of the Socialist Party, Bourgi is known for his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, notably sponsoring legislation in 2023 to recognize the historical criminalization of homosexuality in France.
