Irshad Ahmed is a Scottish politician and businessman who has served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Edinburgh and Lothians East since May 2026. Born in Faisalabad, Pakistan, he moved to Edinburgh in 1993. Ahmed previously held long-standing membership in the Scottish National Party before defecting to the Alba Party in 2021 to advocate for a pro-independence supermajority. He later joined the Scottish Labour Party, where his selection as a top regional list candidate was subject to internal scrutiny regarding voter irregularities, a process supported by party leader Anas Sarwar. He currently represents the Scottish Labour Party in the Scottish Parliament.
