上田勇

Isamu Ueda is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. A graduate of the University of Tokyo and Cornell University, he began his career at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Before his election to the upper house in 2022, he served seven terms in the House of Representatives, holding key government roles including State Minister of Finance and Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Justice. Politically, he supports constitutional reform, the exercise of collective self-defense, and the continuation of nuclear power in Japan, while maintaining a cautious stance on strict indoor smoking bans in restaurants.
