Masahiro Ishida is a Japanese politician and the first male nurse to serve as a member of the National Diet. Born in 1967 in Nara Prefecture, he graduated from the University of Tokyo and worked as a nurse at St. Luke's International Hospital and Tokyo Musashino Hospital before becoming a staff member at the Japanese Nursing Association. He was first elected to the House of Councillors in 2013 and has since secured three consecutive terms. Throughout his career, he has focused on nursing policy, healthcare digitalization, and fiscal reform. He has held several leadership roles, including Chairman of the Committee on Health, Welfare and Labour in the House of Councillors. Politically, he supports the revision of Article 9 of the Constitution while opposing the exercise of collective self-defense and the official visits of government officials to Yasukuni Shrine.
