Prior to his election to the Senate, he served as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives for the 102nd District from 2014 to 2018. A member of the Republican Party, Williams is known for his legislative work on agricultural and food safety policy, most notably sponsoring legislation in 2024 to ban the manufacture, sale, and distribution of lab-grown meat in Alabama.
