Jan Abicht

Jan Abicht is a German politician and entrepreneur who has served as a member of the Landtag of Thuringia since 2024. Born in Leipzig in 1965, he trained as a construction worker and later studied civil engineering. He has been active in the construction industry since 1991, managing his own insulation technology company and a media firm. In addition to his state-level mandate, he serves as the chairman of the AfD faction in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district council and sits on the Schmalkalden city council. Abicht has faced significant public controversy for his remarks regarding the role of foreign nationals in the regional hospitality sector, which were widely criticized by political opponents as xenophobic.
