Appointed to the seat in February 2023, he represents a region in Central Illinois that spans parts of seven counties. Before entering the state legislature, Bunting worked as a farmer and held various local leadership roles, including serving on the Livingston County Board, as a highway commissioner for Broughton Township, and as president of the Livingston County Farm Bureau. In 2026, he was elected to the Illinois Republican State Central Committee.
