John Cornyn is an American politician and former judge who served as a United States Senator for Texas from 2002 to 2027. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a district judge, an associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court, and the Attorney General of Texas. During his tenure in the Senate, he held leadership roles including Senate Republican Whip and chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Known as an establishment conservative, Cornyn has been involved in bipartisan negotiations on issues such as gun legislation and immigration reform. He lost his bid for renomination in the 2026 Republican primary.
