Jun Numaya is a Japanese politician currently serving as the 19th Mayor of Akita. Born in Akita City, he graduated from Akita University and spent 15 years working as a local government official in Akita and Aomori prefectures. He entered politics in 2011, serving four terms as a member of the Akita Prefectural Assembly. After an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 2021, he was elected in April 2025, defeating the incumbent and marking the first time in 54 years that a newcomer had unseated an incumbent mayor in Akita. He currently serves as an independent politician.
