Kokichi Maeda is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Takikawa in Hokkaido, a position he has held since 2011. Born in Takikawa in 1954, he graduated from Nihon University with a degree in agricultural chemistry before working in the family business. His political career began with his election to the Takikawa City Council in 1991, followed by two terms as a member of the Hokkaido Prefectural Assembly. Since becoming mayor, he has been re-elected multiple times, often running unopposed. In addition to his mayoral duties, he serves as the chairman of the Blue Sea and Green Land Foundation.
