Before his election as mayor, he served as the Deputy Mayor of Iwakura from 2013 to 2016. First elected as mayor in 2017, he has since secured re-election multiple times, including a third term in 2025. During his tenure, he has focused on municipal administration and implemented measures such as salary reductions for city officials to fund local COVID-19 countermeasures.
