Previously a prominent leader and cabinet minister in the Aam Aadmi Party government holding key portfolios such as Transport and Environment, he resigned from the party in November 2024 citing unfulfilled promises and subsequently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, winning election to the assembly in 2025.
