Profile

Katsuya Tamura is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture. Born in Kobe, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kansai University and previously worked at the Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank (now Mizuho Bank) and in the childcare support sector. He was elected mayor in July 2023 after campaigning on a platform to cancel the planned consolidation of the Sanda City Hospital. However, after taking office, he shifted his position to support the consolidation, which led to a censure motion by the city council in November 2023. A subsequent no-confidence motion against him was defeated in March 2024.
