Kengo Nakakoji is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Nagaokakyo in Kyoto Prefecture, a position he has held since 2015. Born in Nagaokakyo, he graduated from Doshisha University and later completed a master's degree at the same institution's Graduate School of Policy and Management. Before his mayoral career, he served as a secretary to politician Seiji Maehara and was a member of the Kyoto Prefectural Assembly for three terms. As mayor, he has focused on social inclusivity, notably implementing a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in 2021 and supporting national discussions on marriage equality.
