Kenneth Gibson is a Scottish politician serving as the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament since May 2026. Previously a long-standing member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), he resigned his party affiliation upon assuming the role of Presiding Officer. First elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999, he has represented the Cunninghame North constituency since 2007. Throughout his career, Gibson served as a Glasgow city councillor and twice convened the Parliament's Finance Committee, where he gained a reputation for scrutinizing government policy. He is known for his independent streak, having rebelled against his party on issues such as gender recognition reform and Brexit, and has pledged to reform parliamentary procedures to increase transparency and debate.
