Kentaro Motomura is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, a position he has held since 2019. Before his mayoral tenure, he served three terms as a member of the House of Representatives and two terms in the Kanagawa Prefectural Assembly. Motomura began his career as a secretary to his uncle, the late Senator Kazuki Motomura, and later worked for the East Japan Railway Company. Throughout his political career, he has focused on issues such as political reform, social security, and local development. In 2020, he introduced a partnership oath system for same-sex couples in Sagamihara. He has been transparent about his health, including public disclosures regarding a 2024 kidney cancer diagnosis and a 2026 procedure for chronic subdural hematoma, continuing his duties throughout his medical treatments.
