Kim Dong-yeon is a South Korean politician currently serving as the 36th Governor of Gyeonggi Province since 2022. Born in Eumseong, he overcame significant childhood poverty to build a distinguished career in public service, eventually serving as the 4th Minister of Economy and Finance and Deputy Prime Minister under the Moon Jae-in administration. Before entering politics, he held various high-level bureaucratic roles and served as the 15th president of Ajou University. Kim founded the New Wave party and later merged it with the Democratic Party of Korea. He is known for his focus on economic innovation, social mobility, and policy reform, and he has been a prominent candidate in recent South Korean presidential elections.
