Representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, he was elected to the assembly in the 2023 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election after winning the Viratnagar constituency seat. Dhankad secured his position by defeating the incumbent candidate, Indraj Singh Gurjar of the Indian National Congress, by a margin of 17,589 votes. He officially assumed office on December 15, 2023.
